Wow. Being an African American/Native American woman is very interesting. (to say the least) Right off the bat, people see the black side, u know? Ah yes, and that's where my patience is tested, time and time again. Just last night I was driving my car @ around Eleven 20 pm. I was on my way to get my dad from work. Out of the corner of my eye, i see a police car sitting there, just waiting to follow me. And did he do so? YUP. In my mind, i knew exactly wat was going on. I continued to look in my rearview mirror. The patrol car was still behind me. Finally, i make it to the back parking lot of my dad's building. I turn around and park next to the door. Here comes the cop car. He starts flashing his lights and blocks me in. He gets out of the car and starts walking towards the car. "Goddamnit", i say to myself. This dumbass goes to the passenger side and tries to talk to me from there. This is how the dialogue went:
5-0: "Good evening, ma'am"
Me: "Hello"
5-0: "So what are u doing back here?"
Me: "Waiting for my FATHER to get off of work"
5-0: "He works this late??"
Me: "Um, YES, he is a janitor in the SCHOOL"
5-0: "What time does he get off?"
Me: "Eleven Thirty". I look past his car and guess what i see? TWO MORE back up cop cars. What The FUCK?? ARe u kidding me? So... there was a total of 3 cop cars coming after me. Wow. that was REALLY necessary. Hmph.
5-0: "Ma'am, anytime we see someone come back here, we tend to check it out". I almost lost it right here"
ME: "If that's the case, then there should be someone "checking it out" every single night. I pick my father up from work EVERY night. EVERY night".
5-0: "............" No words. This is when i knew he was a new cop on the force. I pick up my dad every nite, know wat i'm sayin'? "Well... um... i'm not patrolling here every night". I seriously just wanted to tell him to cut the bullshit, 'cause i didn't want to hear it. But as i notice the other cops get out the car, i keep my mouth shut. SHit. F*ckin pigs. Before u know it, here comes my dad walking out with one of my coworkers. Hmph. He thought i was lying. Bastard. Thank god i WASNT doing ne thing i didnt have ne business doing. That would've been a fucked up situation. The cop backs away from the car and walks over to my dad and his coworker. They exchange hellos and the other cops get bak in their car. Shit. 'Round here, u can't do nothin wrong without someone in your shit. As soon as my dad got in the car, he told me exactly what happened b4 i could even explain. "You think you've got it back. You're not a black MAN". As much as i wanted to defend myself, i knew exactly what he was talking about. We talked, joked, and laughed about it all the way home. But on a serious note, the shit's not funny. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying all policemen are racist or biast or ne thing, but in certain areas of the 'Lou shit is a little rougher than it needs to be. I don't want to have to worry about someone looking my shoulder over stupid shit. This shows me how much i have to keep my drive to be so much more than what many expect me to be. I have to go beyond and exceed everyone's expectations. It's hard enuff to be a woman trying to make it in the business world. But a minority, too? On that note, ladies, i know u feel me. Im so glad i have grown, grown to a point that i'm not so excitable and get nervous about shit like this. Time to get serious. Time to put in some work, bitches.
