Between equipment and albums and having someone instruct you on how to use said items...... That's very costly.
Despite all of that, I think about the music that I love to listen to and play and dance to. I think that that other people would also enjoy it.... if they knew it existed. Where does this desire to play music others come from, I wonder?
I recognize that so often I was left disappointed by the music played in bars, clubs, and other social settings. One, most of the DJs in STL who get gigs in these types of establishments are white. They play your Top 20 pop hits and there's a lack of diversity in the music choices in addition to the lack of diversity in the crowds. Where is the world music? "Urban" music? Where is the music with depth and feeling? Where is the music that supports queer, brown, indigenous artists?
If there was one activity that I truly did for myself, it would be DJing. Maybe I'll make that a 2022 goal or something. I'll start pricing equipment now...
